SummaryProduction- Production of wine has a seasonal character because of the specific natural and climatic conditions in Bulgaria. The National statistics institute (NSI) organizes monthly survey in abbreviated nomenclature, according to which compared to the third quarter of 2008 the sample companies produced 41.2% less white table wines, 38.4% - red table wines and 47.1% - frothy wines.
- In comparison with the first nine months of 2008 only the production of quality white wines is higher by 16%.
Foreign Trade- Import of wine in Bulgaria is once again very small in the third quarter. Compared to the same period of 2008 imported quantities are 2.1 times less. For the first nine months the decline is 21.7%.
- The trend of vast reduction in export continued. Compared to the third quarter of 2008 the decrease is 43.1% (for the first half-year - 39.8%). For the first nine months the decline is 40.9%.
- Positive foreign trade balance declines as well. For the third quarter the drop is 31.7%, while during the first nine months - by 34.8%.
Domestic Market Sales- The results of the monthly reasearch of NIS indicate that the sampled companies sold 9.3% more white table wines on the domestic market in the third quarter. Sales of red table wines decreased by 7.4% and of frothy - 2.3 times.
- For the first nine months the sold red table wines are 20.7% less, white table wines - by 2.7% and frothy - by 42.4%.
