Summary
Production

• Enterprises in the wood-processing industry in Bulgaria reported in the third quarter of 2009 reduced sales by 35.7 percent. The decrease in turnover from sales of products, goods and services in the first nine months was 39.9%.
• Production was less by 35.9% (for the first half-year – 42%), compared to a decrease by 40% in the first nine months.
• The results of the monthly surveys of NSI, by the shortened nomenclature indicate that manufacturing of companies included in the sample is less for all observed products.

Import-Export

• Imports during the third quarter decreased at a slower pace. Compared with the same period in 2008 the reduction was 47% (in the first half-year - 2.1 times) and decrease during the first nine months of 2 times.
• The decrease in exports in the third quarter was less - 10% (in the first half-year - 14.9 percent). The decline in the first nine months was 13.1%.
• The decrease in imports was much higher than the decrease of exports, of which the balance in the third quarter was positive by EUR 8.3 million (a year earlier it was negative by EUR 13.8 million). In the first nine months the balance was positive by EUR 22.2 million.

Domestic Market Sales

• The results of the monthly survey of NSI, by the shortened nomenclature indicate that sales of enterprises included in the sample were smaller in all observed products with the exception of veneer sheets, which were more in the third quarter.
