Summary

Production

  • In the fourth quarter of 2021 there is a significant reduction in production on an annual basis due to scheduled repairs of production facilities in October and November. Compared to the same period of 2020, the decline is 65.4%, and compared to the third quarter of 2021 - by 70.8%.
  • Production throughout 2021 falls to its lowest level for the period under review. For the whole year there is a decrease of 15.9% on an annual basis and by 36.5% compared to the beginning of the observed 5-year period.

Foreign Trade

  • Bulgaria's foreign trade in mineral fuels increased in value terms in the fourth quarter of 2021 compared to the same period of the previous year by 46.8%. Trade for the whole 2021 increased by 22.1% compared to 2020. The increase is due to imports - an increase of 58.4%, while exports shrank by 2.2%. As a result, the positive balance plummeted and turned negative.
  • In quantitative terms, the import of mineral fuels increased in the fourth quarter of 2021 on an annual basis by 18.4%. Data for the whole of 2021 show that imported quantities decreased by 2%.
  • In the last three months of 2021 there is a huge decline in exports of fuels on an annual basis - nearly 2.9 times. For the whole year the decrease is 36.9% compared to the previous 2020.

Balance

  • Estimates for the fourth quarter of 2021 show that the quantities of mineral fuels provided for sales on the domestic market are lower by 29.7%, but for the whole of 2021 shows an increase of 5.3% on an annual basis.
